Alexzander Kristiansson will race in next season’s Prototype Cup Germany in the colours of Gebhardt Motorsport. The 24-year-old Swede impressed at tests with the LMP3 racer, which the team from Sinsheim had put up as the reward for winning the title in the Swedish Gebhardt Ginetta GT5 Challenge.
For Alexzander Kristiansson, the LMP3 world was completely new territory at his test, which took place a few weeks ago at the Hockenheimring. “I did not know the car, the circuit or the team. It was all new to me, and it was cold and wet too – the conditions were far from easy for a first test with such a fast car. Despite this, I coped well and never ended up in the wall or the gravel, although I obviously tried to implement the tips and advice I was given and to get faster all the time. The team was apparently happy with me and offered me a contract for 2025. I am thrilled about that and already really looking forward to the coming season; it is like a dream.”
Kristiansson does not yet have a long history in motorsport, having never raced on either the karting or the Formula scene. Five years ago, his motor racing career began in a small regional championship in Stockholm. “I bought a BMW M3, then modified and prepared it myself in my garage. Then I went racing together with my father.” The next step was the Swedish Ginetta GT5 Challenge, in which he drove from 2020 to 2022. “We also competed in that series with our family team KRT Racing, only it grew somewhat with time.” After a year in the NXT Gen Cup, he returned to the Ginettas with an ambitious goal: “I wanted to win the series, in order to get the test in the LMP3 car, which Gebhardt Motorsport had offered as a partner of the series.” His second spell in the GT5 Ginettas was also with his family team, with support from friends. “By now we had four or five cars and at least 15 people helping out on race weekends. I was not only a driver, but also a driver coach for one of my team-mates and obviously learned a lot from the team organisation, which has certainly helped me in my development as a racing driver. I don’t think it can do any harm to learn and appreciate the other sides of motorsport.”
Kristiansson is highly likely to receive more valuable advice in 2025. “It has not yet been confirmed who I will be sharing my car with. I met Markus Pommer at the test and got the impression that he is someone who is very happy to help. He gave me a lot of tips. However, the whole team did a very good job of preparing me for my first outing. You could tell that everyone knows what they are doing, and that they all have a wealth of experience. I believe that, as a newcomer to LMP racing, I have done very well to end up with Gebhardt Motorsport.”
