The American has been racing in the Prototype Cup Germany since 2022. He has now switched to the Ligier JS P320 for 2024, and has his sights set on the title. His big career goal is the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
When the 2024 Prototype Cup Germany gets underway at Spa-Francorchamps from 19th to 21st April, Danny Soufi (20/USA) will take his place on the starting grid. The rapid youngster will again race for established team Konrad Motorsport from Verl near Gütersloh. “I am already very much looking forward to the new season in the Prototype Cup Germany,” says Soufi. “2024 will again throw up a few racetracks that are new to me, and which I will have to learn. However, I believe we will be very competitive.”
Konrad Motorsport changed cars in the winter. Having previously lined up in a Ginetta G61-LT-P3 in the championship, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic, Soufi now takes his place at the wheel of a Ligier JS P320. “I am really enjoying driving the Ligier,” says Soufi, who has piloted the French prototype in a number of races in Southern Europe over the past few weeks. “The Ginetta and the Ligier have totally different characteristics – it feels as though some of these characteristics perform better in the Ligier.”
Armed with the new car, the 20-year-old is looking to challenge at the very front of the Prototype Cup Germany field. “Our big goal is to be in contention for the title,” says a highly-motivated Soufi. “It would obviously be awesome to finish on the podium at the season-opener in Spa. We will do our best to win some races over the course of the season. Konrad Motorsport is a fantastic and experienced team. Bring on the season.” It is yet to be confirmed whether the flying youngster will drive the Ligier on his own, or whether he will share the cockpit with another driver.
Soufi’s career initially started in North America, where he competed in the sport of drifting in cars including a Mazda MX-5. In 2022, the Texan switched to the Prototype Cup Germany. “The series is really a fantastic platform for aspiring drivers. There is some really good racing and the field is strong. There have already been some really big motorsport names on the grid. The Prototype Cup Germany is a perfect springboard for a career in LMP racing.”
Prototype racing is Soufi’s pet project. The biggest goal of his career is to take overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “My sporting career is working towards this goal,” says the American, who now lives near Gütersloh in Germany. “If things go well in this year’s Prototype Cup Germany, my path may take me towards the European Le Mans Series next year – perhaps even in the LMP2 class, for example. However, it is difficult to plan that kind of thing. First up, however, is the 2024 season in the Prototype Cup Germany, in which we want to be at our best, have fun and be successful.”
