The youngster from Belgian team Mühlner Motorsport was fastest in the heavy rain in Zandvoort. Four Duqueine D08 lead the way.
The second free practice session of the Prototype Cup Germany in Zandvoort took place in heavy rain and cold temperatures. Keanu Al Azhari (16/UAE) coped best with these rather unpleasant conditions in a Duqueine D08. The Mühlner Motorsport driver covered the 4.259 kilometres on the North Sea coast of the Netherlands in 1:43.293 minutes. “I am obviously very pleased with the fastest time,” said Al Azhari, who speaks perfect German. “There was a lot of standing water on the track, which didn’t make driving easy. It also took a while before I was able to really put my foot down. Our car feels very good in the rain. Generally speaking, I really like the circuit in Zandvoort. I raced here last year. Zandvoort is really good fun in an LMP3 car.”
In second place, 0.814 seconds slower than Al Azhari in FP2, was the Duqueine of ADAC Stiftung Sport driver Valentino Catalano (18/Westheim) and reigning champion Markus Pommer (33/Untereisesheim, both Gebhardt Motorsport). Julien Apothéloz (23/CHE) and Riccardo Leone Cirelli (16/ITA, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) finished third in another Duqueine, 2.044 seconds off the fastest time.
Fourth place also went to a Duqueine duo. Jacob Erlbacher (23/Böblingen) and Maxim Dirckx (20/BEL, both Gebhardt Motorsport) missed out on top spot on the time sheet by 2.749 seconds. The best-placed Ligier JS P320 was that of Danny Soufi (20/USA) and Torsten Kratz (53/Mönchengladbach, both Konrad Motorsport), who completed the top five.
Next up, at 09:20 on Saturday, is the first qualifying session in Zandvoort. That is followed at 14:15 by the opening race. Both can be watched in a free livestream on the ADAC Motorsport channel youtube.com/adacmotorsports. “The goal is clear – to finish on the podium,” said Al Azhari. “We have been really quick, right from the start of the season, but have not always had the luck you need in a race. Perhaps we will get our first win.”
