Mühlner Motorsport driver sets the fastest time again in the second qualifying session of the Prototype Cup Germany at Circuit Zandvoort. Fellow Duqueine racer Markus Pommer takes second place.
Keanu Al Azhari (16/UAE) continues to shine in the Prototype Cup Germany at Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands. Having already set the fastest time in FP2 and qualifying for race one, the Mühlner Motorsport driver was again unbeatable in his Duqueine D08 in qualifying ahead of Sunday’s race. Al Azhari stopped the clock at 1:31.895 minutes after his flying lap of the 4.259-kilometre track.
“If you include race three at the Lausitzring, this is now my third pole position in a row in the Prototype Cup Germany. That is obviously excellent and I am delighted,” said Al Azhari after qualifying. “I really pushed hard, got everything together perfectly, and managed to find a clear lap. The car was very good again. Whether in the wet or dry conditions, I am in really good form here in Zandvoort. Hopefully the race will now finally give me my first win of the season.”
Second place, 0.422 seconds off Al Azhari’s time, went to Markus Pommer (33/Untereisesheim, Gebhardt Motorsport) in another Duqueine. “I span in qualifying, which resulted in some damage to the rear of the car,” explained Pommer, who lines up together with ADAC Stiftung Sport driver Valentino Catalano (18/Westheim). “After that, the car was no longer perfect to drive. The pole time is impressive, but I could possibly have beaten it. Still, we start from the front row, so it is still all to play for in the race.”
In third place were Julien Apothéloz (23/CHE) and Riccardo Leone Cirelli (16/ITA, both BWT Mücke Motorsport), who were 1.018 seconds slower than the top time in a further Duqueine. Joining them on the second row of the grid will be fellow Duqueine drivers Jacob Erlbacher (23/Böblingen) and Maxim Dirckx (20/BEL, both Gebhardt Motorsport), who missed out on pole by 1.737 seconds. Rounding out the top five were Danny Soufi (20/USA) and Torsten Kratz (53/Mönchengladbach, both Konrad Motorsport) in a Ligier JS P320.
Sunday’s race in the Prototype Cup Germany gets underway at 15:25 and will be streamed live on the free ADAC Motorsport channel.
