The racing series organised by the ADAC and Creventic produced some fascinating numbers and statistics in the 2024 season.
Valentino Catalano (18/Westheim) and Markus Pommer (33/Untereisesheim, both Gebhardt Motorsport) claimed the title in the 2024 Prototype Cup Germany. The Duqueine D08 drivers won two of the season’s twelve races and made a further six appearances on the podium. Here are the other interesting facts and figures from season three of the Prototype Cup Germany.
Double champion: Pommer also won the Drivers’ Championship in the Prototype Cup Germany in 2023, making him the first person to successfully defend the title. Pommer is by no means an unknown in the world of ADAC Motorsport. He also has six race wins to his name in the ADAC GT Masters. Team-mate Catalano is one of the drivers supported by the ADAC Stiftung Sport foundation.
Perfect weekend: Ralf Schumacher (49/Salzburg) and David Schumacher (23/Salzburg, both US Racing) made a guest appearance in a Ligier JS P320 at the race weekend at the Nürburgring. The father/son duo enjoyed the perfect weekend. They finished top of the timing sheets in both free practices and both qualifying sessions – and went on to win both races in the Eifel Mountains.
More multiple winners: As well as Catalano/Pommer and Schumacher/Schumacher, there were other drivers who made it onto the top step of the podium more than once in the 2024 season. Danny Soufi (21/USA) and Torsten Kratz (54/Mönchengladbach, both Konrad Motorsport) bagged a brace of wins in a Ligier at the Dekra Lausitzring. Julien Apothéloz (23/CHE) and Riccardo Leone Cirelli (16/ITA, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) won twice in a Duqueine at the Hockenheimring. Fellow Duqueine driver Keanu Al Azhari (16/UAE, Mühlner Motorsport) claimed one race win at both Circuit Zandvoort and the Sachsenring.
International drivers: A total of 28 drivers lined up in the Prototype Cup Germany in 2024. They represented 14 different countries: Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Estonia, France, Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, Austria, Switzerland, Uruguay, the UAE, and the USA.
International teams: The 13 teams in last season’s Prototype Cup Germany had a very international look to them. They came from Germany, Austria, Spain, Luxembourg, Belgium and Italy.
Flying in Saxony: The fastest lap of the season came courtesy of Keanu Al Azhari in qualifying ahead of race one at the Sachsenring. The Mühlner Motorsport driver took exactly 1:15.365 minutes to complete his flying lap of the 3.645-kilometre track near Chemnitz – that is an average speed of 174.1 km/h.
France to the fore: Three of the four homologated LMP3 models took their place on the starting grid in the Prototype Cup Germany: Duqueine D08, Ginetta G61-LT-P3 and Ligier JS P320. The most successful of the trio were French manufacturers Duqueine and Ligier, who each amassed six race wins.
Consistent drivers: Danny Soufi and Torsten Kratz, who ended the season in second place, were the only drivers to finish in the points in every race in 2024. Champions Catalano/Pommer went empty-handed in just one race.
Close affair: The tightest margin of victory in the 2024 season came in race two at the Lausitzring, when Soufi/Kratz took the chequered flag just 0.401 seconds ahead of Cirelli/Apothéloz. The winners also took victory by less than a second in race two at the Hockenheimring.
Huge lead: The biggest win of the season was in the Sunday race at the Sachsenring, when Al Azhari finished a full 54.850 seconds clear of Cirelli/Apothéloz.
Plenty of kilometres completed: A total of 438 laps of racing were completed in the 2024 season. Multiplied by the respective circuit lengths, that comes to a total distance of more than 1700 kilometres. That is roughly the equivalent of travelling from the Nürburgring to the Hockenheimring and back four times on the motorway.
