The reigning champion set the best time in the third Prototype Cup Germany qualifying session at the Hockenheimring. Four Duqueine D08 in the top five.
Markus Pommer (33/Untereisesheim, Gebhardt Motorsport) was unbeatable in the qualifying session for race three of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring. The local hero took exactly 1:34.999 minutes to complete a lap of the 4.574-kilometre track in North Baden and secure pole position for race three. “P1 on the grid at our home track was our ultimate goal,” said Pommer jubilantly; he shares the Duqueine D08 with ADAC Stiftung Sport sponsored driver Valentino Catalano (18/Westheim). “I was able to raise the level of my driving again compared to yesterday. I was also very happy with the set-up of the car. So, I was quite confident going into the qualifying session.”
“My fastest lap wasn’t all that spectacular, but I managed to make perfect use of the tyre. The lap was also very clean and there was no traffic. In retrospect I think that I might even have been able to get a little more out of it. However, the 95 percent laps are usually the fastest in the end because you don’t push too hard,” Pommer went on to say.
With a deficit of 0.187 seconds, second place in the qualifying session went to brand colleague Keanu Al Azhari (16/UAE, Mühlner Motorsport). In third place were Julien Apothéloz (23/CHE) and Riccardo Leone Cirelli (16/ITA, both BWT Mücke Motorsport), who trailed by 0.316 seconds in another Duqueine. Danny Soufi (21/USA) and Torsten Kratz (53/Mönchengladbach, both Konrad Motorsport) were the best Ligier duo; they were 0.392 seconds off Pommer’s time. Jacob Erlbacher (23/Böblingen) and Maxim Dirckx (20/BEL, both Gebhardt Motorsport) in the Duqueine completed the top five.
Next up, the first Prototype Cup Germany race at the Hockenheimring will start at 13:50, with two further races on Sunday. A free livestream on ADAC Motorsport’s channel youtube.com/adacmotorsports will be broadcasting all the action.
