Having made a guest start in last year’s Prototype Cup Germany, Danish racing driver Mikkel C. Johansen has now registered for the full season in 2025. The 37-year-old will be at the wheel of a Duqueine D08 for Gebhardt Motorsport.
Mikkel C. Johansen has driven many different race cars over the course of his career. Last summer, he added a first outing in an LMP3 prototype. “I drove at the Nürburgring with AF2 Motorsport, and shared the cockpit with Jaime Guzmán. I wanted to try something a bit different and had been thinking about the Prototype Cup Germany. When regular AF2 driver Robert Doyle was unable to race at the Nürburgring due to an injury, my debut came about sooner than expected.” That allowed Johansen to familiarise himself with the Prototype Cup Germany at first hand, and he was impressed. “For one thing, the LMP3 car was a lot of fun. But I also found the series very pleasant, people treated each other fairly on the track. Nobody did anything crazy during the sessions. I like that – I am all for wheel-to-wheel racing, but only if it is done fairly, as I experienced in the Prototype Cup Germany.”
Over the winter, he agreed to drive for Gebhardt Motorsport, last year’s championship winning team. “I have already had a test, at which I was able to get to know the way the team works. Everyone is very professional, yet the atmosphere is still friendly and pleasant. And the car feels very good. I am already looking forward to the new season.” Exactly who he will share the Duqueine with will be announced at a later date.
Johansen has raced in various classes of motorsport. Having started out in karting, he initially moved into Formula racing, before also making a name for himself in touring cars and GT racers. He now wants to establish himself as a prototype driver. “The big target for my career is to make a living out of motorsport. I know that is a very ambitious goal, especially as I am a little older. Another of my dreams is to take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Preferably in a hypercar, of course, but any other class would also be great.” He has also consciously set himself ambitious goals for the coming season. “I would like to finish in the top three. I am aware that I will have to work hard and give it my all to achieve that. However, I don’t believe that it is unrealistic and you should set yourself ambitious goals. Plus, I want to give something back to the team, as I am very grateful that they selected me and put their faith in me as their driver for the 2025 Prototype Cup Germany.”
