Shortly after the end of the 2024 season, BWT Mücke Motorsport has already reported great interest in the Prototype Cup Germany from many drivers and can now announce its third driver for the coming season. Poland’s Maksymilian Angelard joins the Berlin-based team.
Maksymilian Angelard is a 17-year-old racing driver who is making the move to the Prototype Cup Germany after one year in GT4 racing. “I have always wanted to move towards LMP racing,” he said. “Even when I was racing karts, I found closed cars more appealing than Formula racers, which is not exactly typical for a kart driver.” Despite this, he did get a taste of Formula 4, although his outings were limited to test drives. “That just confirmed that I prefer closed race cars.”
Although he dreamed of a career on the LMP scene, Angelard initially opted for GT4 at the start of 2024. “GT4 is a relatively low racing category, which makes it exactly the right place to master the switch from karting to automobile racing. I think that was the correct first step for me. However, because I have always fancied LMP racing, I did not want to race in GT4 for too long.” So it was that he attended his first tests in a 455-hp, 950-kilogram LMP3 racer last year. “The fact that the LMP3 car does not have ABS, unlike my GT4 racer, was the biggest difference for me. I really had to be careful not to lock the wheels at first. The great amount of downforce that the LMP3 generates was obviously also unfamiliar to me. You have to establish trust in the car over the course of many laps. As such, my first few kilometres in an LMP3 car were definitely challenging. However, it was an awful lot of fun from the word go. It showed me that I am ready to join the Prototype Cup Germany.”
To accompany him at the start of his LMP3 career, Angelard opted for the BWT Mücke Motorsport team, which has been known for decades for its youth development work in various different racing series. “I attended the test with a Duqueine and Mücke Motorsport, and felt very comfortable with them, both from a sporting perspective and personally. And you know that they are a good team, capable of battling at the front of the field. I was also in touch with other teams in the Prototype Cup Germany, but I think Mücke is a good choice for me.”
“We are pleased to welcome Makxymilian – another talented young driver alongside Mattis Pluschkell and Riccardo Leone Cirelli,” said team principal Stefan Mücke. “Maksymilian particularly impressed us with the meticulous way he prepared for the tests. We noticed immediately that he feels at home in LM prototypes and that he wants to develop in this direction – and we believe he will do precisely that. With him, we have now announced our third driver for the Prototype Cup Germany in 2025, which speaks volumes for the positive trend in this emerging racing series.”
